Shirley Williams-Watkins is one of Madea's favorite nieces who has Cancer. She has four children, Joyce, Tammy, Kimberly, and Byron. She is portrayed by Loretta Devine. Shirley was born in 1952 and she passed away at the age of 56 in 2011 (2010 in the play).

Background Information[]

Shirley has been fighting cancer for 7 years and almost made it until she had to be called back into the doctor's office at the hospital. The doctor, Wallace, told her that she had 4-6 weeks to live. When she was home, she had her daughter, Joyce, who visits her mother all the time, call all of her brothers and sisters, including their spouses. When they came there, they all started to argue and fight. But luckily Madea was there because Bam called her to come up here and straighten their problems out. The arguments ended with family secrets found out and people leaving. Unfortunately, their problems couldn't be straightened out before Shirley died but, after the funeral was over and they all came over to her house, Madea straightened their problems out. She was always trying to help her family.

Shirley (Movie)[]

Shirley is Madea's niece who has Cancer. She has 3 children, 2 daughters named Tammy and Kimberly and 1 son named Byron. She is portrayed by Loretta Devine.

Background Information[]

When the movie starts, Shirley has been called into the doctor's office in the hospital. Bam is there with her. Same as in the play, the doctor says she has 4-6 weeks to live. She has Bam call the whole family over: her daughter, Tammy, Tammy's husband, Harold, her other daughter, Kimberly, Kimberly's husband, Calvin Sr., and her son (actually Kimberly's son, whom finds out the secret from Tammy later on), Byron and his girlfriend, Renee. Shirley also invites Byron's son's mother, Sabrina. When she is unable to tell them because they have to leave, she only has dinner with Byron, Renee, and his baby, Byron Jr.. Bam goes to Madea for help and they invite the clan again for a big dinner. This time everyone comes but, family secrets are spilled and they all leave. Shirley dies sooner than her expected time, and after the funeral, Madea straightens their problems out and the clan reconciles. Real good. Shirley was born in 1952 she passed away at the age of 59 in 2011 (2010 in the play).
